The great thing about a “Stay-Cation” is that you can take one anytime during the year! In Iberia Parish, there is always something going on therefore always an opportunity to play “tourist”! A growing trend we are seeing in the real estate industry is investors purchasing homes and making them into Airbnb’s. From the Bayou Chateau & Chateau Royale to the St. Peter House to the soon to be open Baits Motel to a few homes in the historic district, there’s always a unique option for a place to stay! Many of these locations can be found online or through booking sites such as Airbnb or VRBO. Spending the weekend at a local location helps you to see your hometown from a different perspective and experience these options that you may pass by on a regular basis. It also gives you the opportunity to recommend them to family or friends when they come to town and allows them to have the same unique and amazing experience that you had!
Each parish has a variety of local attractions, museums and festivals. Many of us haven’t visited local attractions and museums since we went to them on field trips in school, and we sometimes skip festivals because we get too busy in our daily lives. Iberia Parish, for example, has some fantastic attractions and museums that are new and that have been here for quite some time. Venture off to Avery Island and visit Tabasco! Spend the day by visiting the factory, learn a bit of history at their museum and then get a bite to eat at their local restaurant. Some other interesting attractions are Konriko Rice, Bayou Teche Museum, The Shadows on the Teche, Jungle Gardens and the Jeanerette Museum! Iberia Parish hosts a variety of festivals that draw in tourists from all around the world! Our World Championship Gumbo has been featured in nationwide publications and television shows. We are also known for our Sugarcane Festival which is held in September and lasts for four days. Don’t forget to treat yourself to Mardi Gras, The Spanish Festival, Delcambre Shrimp Festival, Books Along the Teche Literary Festival, Lao New Year, Very Berry Christmas and the Bunk Johnson Jazz Festival to name a few!
Sprinkle in great food at some of our local restaurants and you’ve got a fantastic Stay-cation planned! So, whether you’re from Iberia Parish or elsewhere, rediscover your hometown! You may surprise yourself with places and things you never knew before.
